4100mAh massive battery, Oh really ? – Asus zenfone 3 Max (Zc553kl) Review

This phone has a metal back and like the regular zenfone 3 seems a little generic. To the front on top we’ve got an 8 megapixel front-facing camera, the ear piece , sensors thats followed by a 5.5 inch display and at the bottom we have got capacitive keys that still are in backlit. The back made of metal and here we have 16 megapixel camera, dual tone dual-led flash , laser assist for auto focus, a fingerprint scanner and Asus’s branding at the bottom. The fingerprint scanner feels fast and accurate , this is an active scanner so wakes the Zenfone 3 Max from sleep.

The volume rocker buttons can be found to the right. The micro USB port, speaker and the primary microphone reside at the bottom. There is a 3.5 mm headphone jack and the secondary noise cancelling microphone at the top. We’ve a tray located at the left here is where you can add either 2 sim cards or a sim and  a microSD card.

Asus Zenfone 3 max is is just 8.3 mm thick and weighs in around 170 Grams. It feels solid in hands. The design like I said at the start just look a little generic. We’ve seen it many times in past but that doesn’t make this a bad design. The 5.5 inch display used here as a full HD resolution meaning a pixel density of over 400pixels per inch. Looks sharp and vibrant, decent viewing angles.

Performance :

Underneath the hood the Zenfone 3 Max is powered by the entry level snapdragon™ Octa-Core 430 with 3 Gigs of RAM and 32 gigs of onboard storage. Out of the box you have about 23 Gigs of storage available. All this is backed up by a 4100mAh non removable power battery and that’s asus’s big selling point here. The fact that this phone supports reverse charging too !!

Below you can see the numbers obtained from benchmark tests using AnTuTu Benchmark.

UI :
This user interface looks quite familiar because this is Asus’s zen UI 3.0 built on Android 6 Marshmallow.

zenfone 3 max has TriTech autofocus where they use 2nd-gen laser auto-focus, face detection laser and continuous auto focus at the same time but I think there must be some issue with pixel master 3.0. We heard  that some zenfone 3 users have also reported this and we think pixel master team is already working to solve this. Autofocusing needs to be improved
Rear Camera :
Asus Zenfone 3 max has 16 megapixel PixelMaster 3.0 Rear camera with 1/3″ sensor size, with dual-tone LED flash, Five element lens with  f/2.0 aperture this supports for both face detection and laser autofocus. No Optical image stabilisation though. 2c

Verdict :

The Asus Zenfone 3 Max ZC520TL is a quite powerful and heat up is under control. Battery life is  good. Handset has got a premium feel and the price is on the higher side.

I was expecting it to be somewhere under Rs. 12,000.
